My Story

My mother's cooking is the inspiration for LeeLee Lucky's Asian Deli and Dining. Here I will celebrate my family's journey, sharing with you all of my favourite homemade meals, snacks, drinks and treats.

My parents were amongst the first Vietnamese boat people to arrive in Australia in 1977. Before landing in Australia, Mum and Dad spent 2 years in a refugee camp in Pulau Tengah, Malaysia. Missing the comforts of home and family, Mum filled the void the only way she knew how ...

She traded her wedding ring for a wok and spatula, and borrowed money for cooking oil. Then using the surplus food provided by the UNHCR, Mum set up a market stall where she cooked traditional Vietnamese dishes for the other refugees and local Malays to enjoy .

Calling Perth home for the last 46 years, Mum continued to spread the love via cooking and serving Vietnamese feasts to nourish a growing family. I grew up not only learning my mother's famous recipes, but also sharing her passion for cooking, and bringing people together with good food.

LeeLee Lucky's Asian Deli and Dining pays homage to my parent's journey, where I am able to continue the love of providing heart-warming homecooked Vietnamese dishes to you. To me home is food, and food is love.
